What is MWD System?
MWD is short for Measurement While Drilling. It refers to directional drilling measurement, it is a downhole measurement and wireless transmission technology for well drilling. This system consist of downhole equipment and ground system, these tools are used for directional surveys in real time, and it can also measure the inclination and azimuth of the wellbore at that location by accelerometers and magnetometers, then transmit the information to the surface.
How to measure the inclination and azimuth angles?
Today, I would like to share a key part of MWD equipment- Directional Sensor
Directional sensor is a part of downhole equipment, it is designed to measure inclination, azimuth, and toolface angles in borehole logging and drilling applications. It consists 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis fluxgate magnetometer, and 1 temperature sensor. With high accuracy of ±0.1° for inclination and toolface, and ±0.3° for azimuth. It have many advantages include high temperature resistance, shock and vibration resistance, etc.
